New slogan for Gecko Inc.

One of our members actually made this logo which was inspired by

Gecko Inc. New Project

Our main project this semester is going to be... S.W.R.D. BANDARANAYAKA VIDYALAYA
This school has 235 children (111 girls and 124 boys) and they do have a little playground at the back of their school. However, they do not have the proper sports gear to enjoy sport.

What we are planning to buy with your money:
Cricket bats
Cricket Wickets
Tennis balls
Netballs
Netball Hoops (hopefully)
Footballs
Badminton rackets and shuttles

Hopefully we will make enough money to buy these items :)

TO earn this money to facilitate the school, Gecko inc is going to hold a basketball tournament! This was our communication line where "Angelo Jayasuriya" helped me spread the word :)

Session 3

We had community basketball again last saturday and this time about 35 people showed up. However, if we wanted to get enough money to facilitate a school by this december we needed to increase our revenue. This either meant more people coming for the service or increasing the fee. Since our gym is already so full! We decided to increased the entry fee to 100rs from 50rs which could have effected the amount of people coming to play. (This is probably one 1 dollar to play in our courts). Even though the attendance was less this weekend, we made profit and the games were easier to manage with less people wanting to play. This weekend was yet again a success :)

Next weekend we are planning to keep the entry fee as 100rs and make no changes from how we have been running the games so far. On out thursday CAS meeting we will talk and decide on what we are going to do with the profit we have made. One idea so far has been to buy sports equipment for local schools in need.

Gecko Inc.

The Community Service is undoubtedly a success, on our first session around 29 people came for the session with around 20 people from outside. Although it is a service group for the less fortunate, Gecko Inc. gets people from the community to contribute. So we involve our community rather than earning all the money ourselves.
On our second session, our popularity grew, almost 40 people showed up. It was unbelievable and people began to donate to help our cause.

I really feel that this CAS had developed my leadership skills and well as allowed me to utilize my publicity skills online and organize.

Gecko INc.

Gecko Inc. is a new CAS program at OSC had started this year, which focuses on athletic enrichment in our community. The students of this service and our athletic coordinator, Mr. Shipley, planned and initiated it from scratch. An issue to had come across was that Colombo does not have many athletic facilities and many schools do not have sufficient amount of athletic gear or supplies for their students. We realized that athletes who are motivated to practice their sport find themselves lost, not knowing where to go. Initially the idea of the service was to provide facilities for the community to come to our school and play their sport, gradually our group realized that the some school children required more than a place to play their sport, but do not have basic athletic gear like a basketball balls or cricket gloves. Therefore, the aim of the Gecko Inc. is to further improve and enrich the athletic community of our own school as well as others in Colombo. The students of Overseas School of Colombo meet every Saturday to organize a basketball event at our own facility, which is catered to anyone and everyone who is interested in playing sport; furthermore, all profits from the entrance fee, selling of refreshments and donations will be channeled into facilitating less fortunate schools that do not have sufficient athletic supplies.

On Saturday 1st of October OSC held our first community basketball. Around 10 people attended with around 4 people from outside the school community. All players paid rs50 and many people bought drinks and snacks that were available.
As a leader of this CAS I was organizing the publicity of the event along with what actually happens on  both courts. I must just credit to Sara for ordering the drinks through the business office and handling necessary paper work.

The trial session was held was a success as we made profit and had good basketball games played. The next time Community Basketball will be held is on saturday the 29th of October. Unfortunately it is this late as SAISA is held next saturday, and the two saturdays after that are during the October break and most of our Gecko Inc. members are not present.
In the next Community Basketball we are hoping to have more people attending, especially from outside of our school. We will work on advertising this event and getting good basketball games played!
